The Humanity in the Handmade: Santa Fe’s International Folk Art Market
The world's largest folk art festival is an unforgettable experience for the shoppers who score one-of-a-kind finds—and even more so for the artisans whose lives are forever changed by their earnings.
The 14th Annual International Folk Art Market on Museum Hill in Santa Fe (July 14-16) is the largest, most diverse folk art festival in the world, with 160 artists traveling from 53 different countries to showcase their handmade wares. Along with the opportunity to purchase unique textiles, jewelry, beadwork, rugs, and other items comes a chance to directly support indigenous craftsmen and women, many of whom use the market as their main source of income throughout the year.
Here we showcase a bit of what can be found among the tents.
