D. Minsen has been at its central Connaught Place location (F-17 Connaught Pl.; dminsen.com) since the thirties, when owner Violet Chiu’s father-in-law moved here from Calcutta. Clients include equestrians, military types, and a well-heeled clutch of men (and increasingly, women) who simply like expertly crafted bespoke brogues, monks, and Chelsea boots. Some of the country’s top polo players now wear D. Minsen boots, like the ones below, which start at $300. Shoes take up to six weeks to produce, and Chiu ships to the United States, UK, and Canada. Just next door John Bros (F-16/2 Connaught Pl.) also provides fine custom footwear, most notably Indian wedding shoes, complete with turned-up toes. Both stores stock full ready-to-wear lines as well.
