Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio
Founded in 1917, the Allen Memorial Art Museum occupies an Italian Renaissance–style building designed by Cass Gilbert and a 1977 gallery by Robert Venturi, Rauch and Scott Brown. Its eclectic collections include 1,700 Japanese woodblock prints, 16th- and 17th-century Netherland, Dutch and Flemish art, early 20th-century Expressionism and the archives of sculptor Eva Hesse. The museum also owns Ohio’s first Usonian house from the late 1940s—designed by Frank Lloyd Wright as affordable post-World War II housing for the middle class. It is open for tours. 87 N.
