The latest novel by acclaimed Japanese author Haruki Murakami, Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage (Knopf), is currently being translated into English. University of Arizona professor Philip Gabriel, who has worked on other Murakami translations, is helming the project. A sensation in Japan last year, the book sold a million copies in seven days. Unlike Murakami’s previous work, 1Q84, a beguiling, metaphysical doorstop, this novel returns to a more subdued realism reminiscent of his beloved coming-of-age tale, Norwegian Wood. It is expected to arrive in U.S. bookstores this fall.
