British Art: Tate Britain

Established by sugar magnate Sir Henry Tate in the 19th century, the museum was renamed and refocused after the opening of its sister gallery, the Tate Modern, in 2000. Tate Britain, now a network of four museums, displays the world’s largest collection of British art. The paintings, prints and sculptures are arranged in chronological order from 1500 to 1900, with the Tate Modern taking on all that comes after. Millbank; 44-20/7887-8888; tate.org.uk.
