Wintastar will spread across almost 1 million square feet and allow visitors to experience perfect skiing conditions 365 days a year — no matter what’s happening outside, CNN reported.
Those who wish to stay in cold conditions can even book a room at the on-site ice hotel. There will be three other hotels at varying price points, offering different experiences like ski-in/ski-out lodgings or après-ski entertainment.
Visitors will be able to choose from three different slopes, one which promises to meet the “Olympic standard for training,” measuring more than 1.8 miles (3 km).
Guests at Wintastar will get to see “world-class winter sport competitions, ice sculpture shows, several theatres showcasing a wide variety of theatrical shows, concerts and multi-dimensional cinematic displays,” according to the developers. There will also be restaurants and retail spaces throughout Wintastar.
The Wintastar doesn’t yet have a date set for completion, but construction has already begun. It is likely that the project will be completed before the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing in 2022.
The company behind the project is the same that built Ski Dubai. The UAE indoor ski resort was the largest in the world when it was built back in 2005. The facility in Shanghai will be almost three times larger.
