And people are traveling for rejuvenation now more than ever with the 2018 Global Wellness Economy Monitor reporting that the wellness travel market is expected to reach a value of over $900 billion by 2022. But there's one under-the-radar spa that's been attracting in-the-know visitors since 1892.
Located right outside Venice, Italy, Terme di Relilax Boutique Hotel & Spa had served as a wellness sanctuary for 127 years long before there were treatments like diamond facials. So, why have travelers sought out this particular spot in Montegrotto Terme?
Well, the resort is famous for its therapeutic thermal water and mud treatments that are unique to the land and date back to the ancient Roman times. Plus, these natural resources have been proven by decades of scientific research by Pietro d'Abano Thermal Studies Centre with Padua University to not only provide anti-aging benefits, but also to aid in the cure of osteoarticular syndromes, inflammatory rheumatism, sports injuries, and pain treatment. The mud actually has a DOC Thermal Mud Registration and Patent that by law requires licensed doctors on staff to prescribe mud treatments to guests.
"At Relilax, we offer 15 different mud treatments and house three thermal pools on-site, creating a sanctuary to embrace these natural elements," Consuelo Braggion, owner of Terme di Relilax, told Departures. "We also offer our guests fresh produce and honey harvested from our personal organic farm, Il Casale al Colle, which is used in our detoxes, cleanses, and at our restaurants."
A variety of massages and facials are also available, as well as the option to meet with a certified nutritionist. A custom Relilax-curated alkaline diet (AlkaRelilax Diet) can also be created to help guests achieve their wellness goals while balancing ph levels, and complementing the chosen spa services.

The 83-room property, which underwent a renovation in 2018, can accommodate guests from a couple of days to month-long wellness retreat with room rates starting at $150 a night.
