More than 30 years after M’Lynn, Shelby and the ladies of Truvy’s Beauty Shop first made us cry, Steel Magnolias fans are invited to experience the magic of the beloved Southern classic first-hand—all it takes is a trip down to charming Natchitoches, Louisiana, AKA Chinquipin.

Here, where the real-life experiences of author Robert Harling took place, and where the beloved 80s dramedy was later filmed, visitors can stay the night at the fictional Eatenton family’s historic home. Yes, really!

In 2003, the stately brick house featured in the film was converted into a bed and breakfast, aptly named The Steel Magnolia House. It’s changed hands a few times since then, but the interior and exterior of the home on Jefferson Street hasn’t changed a bit. Inside, guests can stay in six suites named after the characters from the film. The Shelby Room, for example, is outfitted in Shelby’s (Julia Roberts) “signature” pink and the private bath features the same tub featured in one of the opening scenes. Visitors can also count on plenty of antiques and Steel Magnolias memorabilia—from costume sketches to behind-the-scenes photos—throughout the home.

For the full Steel Magnolias experience in Natchitoches, book a tour with local tour operator Barbara Bailey. In addition to a stop at The Steel Magnolia House, her tours include a glimpse of Truvy's (Dolly Parton) Beauty Shop and a visit to St. Augustine Catholic Church where Shelby’s wedding took place. Just don’t forget to pack plenty of tissues!
