Julian Schnabel is arguably one of the most famous modern-day artists. He first received worldwide recognition in the 1980s for his plate paintings and has gone one to create more work and become an award-winning filmmaker. But, during his downtime, he would stay at his New York City townhouse. And now you can too.

Owned by former model and ex-wife of Julian Schnabel, Olatz Schnabel, the Soho Gallery Townhouse is a four-bedroom, four-bathroom terraced home on Soho's King Street and available to rent via onefinestay. Olatz served as Julian's muse throughout their marriage, and the house is filled with original art by the artist inspired by his then-wife.

The living areas are painted bright shades of deep blue and mint, with brightly patterned furniture, Moroccan rugs, and checkered ceramic tiling. The home is carefully curated with decorative objects from Olatz's years spent traveling the world as a model. You’ll find things like an ornate blue and gold 18th-century French door that frames the entryway; the kitchen tabletop is made of marble from the old terrace behind the MoMa, and there are period antiques throughout. The home is drenched in light and feels airy, with the sun streaming in through the private garden – giving the house the relaxed feel of being in the French countryside.

"SoHo Gallery Townhouse is a truly unique home with a distinct, beautiful sensibility and a strong sense of story," Stephen Haskell, onefinestay's General Manager, North America, told Departures. "The artwork sets it apart from any other home in the onefinestay portfolio (and New York for that matter). The large-scale paintings are dramatic and unmistakable."

He added, "But what's more: because the art and the owner are so inextricably linked, the furniture, color palette, architecture, and design choices all seamlessly fit together in the same unique aesthetic vision. Being in the home feels like you're not only surrounded by art but actually in a work of art."
