Traveling to Earth’s poles was something once reserved for brave adventurers. Today, though still, quite a feat, reaching the top and bottom of the planet is a bit more comfortable. In fact, it’s becoming one of the most luxurious vacations you can take. And that trek is about to get a whole lot fancier. How? SeaDream Yacht Club announced that its new ultra-luxury vessel SeaDream Innovation will take passengers from Antarctica to the Arctic in 2022.
The pole-to-pole sailing is an 88-day voyage that starts in Ushuaia, Argentina (the southernmost tip of South America) and ends in Longyearbyen, Norway. Along the way, you stop at several points in Antarctica including Deception Island and the Lemaire Channel where penguins, whales, and seals will greet you. You’ll then slowly make your way back to civilization stopping in destinations like Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Morocco, Lisbon, Bordeaux, London, Amsterdam, and Oslo before sailing through the Norwegian fjords and into the Arctic Circle.
Throughout the journey, you’ll be treated to all the high-end amenities Shackleton and his crew wished they had. The new ship is comprised of 110 suites all featuring ocean views, large living areas, walk-in closets, and plush linens—a far departure from large ships sailing to these locations. Opt for a suite located on the upper decks, and you’ll get a veranda to watch icebergs and wildlife pass by in the comfort of your pajamas.
In addition, passengers will get five-star dining, generous outdoor spaces, spa, gym, golf simulators, laundry, library, pool, and a one-to-one guest to crew ratio. And SeaDream Innovation incorporates the latest eco-friendly technologies and advances, enabling it to sail silently and without emissions for up to three hours.
“This project has been a dream of mine for many years,” said Atle Brynestad, owner, chairman, and CEO of SeaDream, in a statement. “It has been a true labor of love to meticulously design every aspect of this yacht, from the interiors and facilities to the itineraries.”
The pole-to-pole voyage is just part of the many itineraries the new luxury yacht is set to complete. Beginning in 2021, the vessel will sail to all seven continents, 49 countries, and over 200 ports in its first 15 months on the water.
