When planning a fall getaway, most travelers think of heading up north to take in the breathtaking views of the changing leaves. But one southern city offers plenty to do this autumn that will make you forget all about a road trip to the northeast and opt for a trip down south instead.
While Savannah isn't generally pegged as a fall getaway destination, it absolutely should be. With a number of exciting events to celebrate the season, there's something to do almost every weekend—cold temperatures not included.
Running from September 23rd through the 29th, the 37th annual Savannah Jazz Festival offers an impressive roster of talented musicians and bands playing in venues across the city. From scheduled performances to jam sessions, there are a ton of events to check out. Best of all, every event is free for all guests.
From October 27th to November 3rd, film lovers can head to the city to check out the SCAD Savannah Film Festival. Over 50,000 people are expected to attend to check out cinematic works by both famed cinematographers and emerging students of The Savannah College of Art and Design. The week-long event will also host screenings, workshops, panels, and lectures with a number of esteemed creatives.
For the culinary crowd, Savannah Food & Wine Festival is celebrating another season with some of the best food in town. From November 5th through the 11th, the Food & Wine Festival brings over 300 vendors together to celebrate the city's best wine, food and beverage, with a host of events and activities that offer an immersive experience. From a secret speakeasy to a celebrity chef tour (hosted by the James Beard Foundation), and master classes with a handful of celebrated chefs, this is the perfect activity for any foodie.
For those ready to book a trip to Savannah this fall, check out the newly opened Perry Lane Hotel that's brought a bit more luxury to this beautiful town. With 167 rooms and 12 suites, the hotel made waves when they arrived earlier this summer as the first true luxury hotel in a city known for its beautiful inns and B&Bs. With a rooftop pool, sundeck, artfully designed rooms and suites, and three stunning restaurants, it's a great spot to recharge before heading out for any fun festival or activity.
