The U.S. remains the top summer destination this year while bookings in Chile and India have majorly increased, according to Virtuoso, the prominent trend predictor.

They examined their data warehouse of $49.5 billion in bookings to forecast where upscale voyagers are heading for summer 2019. They have identified the top destinations for summer travel as well as the hottest destinations, which have seen the most increases in bookings year-over-year.

The United States continues to have the most bookings of popular travel destinations, making it 2019’s top summer spot. As Americans plan summer vacations, many are opting instead to stay close to home, lending to the country’s staggering popularity. For instance, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming has some of the most incredible views of rolling hills and green and floral pastures in the U.S. Following the U.S. closely are the expected European haunts––Italy, the U.K., France (a must for Bastille Day), and Greece.

As more airlines debut flights to more farfetched locales from the U.S., Virtuoso has seen a spike in bookings in South Africa, which comes in at number six for the most popular summer destinations this year, and the Netherlands, coming in as number ten.

Due to its varied terrain and multitude of offered experiences, from wine valleys to the Atacama Desert and Andes Mountains, Chile has seen a 410% increase in bookings year-over-year. This makes the beautiful country overwhelmingly the hottest travel destination this year. India, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines have seen a collective average of 150% in increase in booked hotels and flights.

Other countries in Africa are seeing more tourism as well, specifically Kenya, the sixth hottest summer destination, and Egypt, the seventh. Singapore is up 73% year-over-year in bookings as the setting for the hugely popular film “Crazy Rich Asians."
