If you’re looking for the world’s most over-the-top Christmas tree, don’t head to Rockefeller Center in New York. Instead, book a trip to Marbella, Spain, where one hotel is claiming to have the most expensive one. Kempinski Hotel Bahia just revealed its extravagant Christmas tree that’s worth a whopping $15.67 million.
The five-star hotel located on the beach along the Mediterranean partnered with celebrity designer Debbie Wingham to create the festive masterpiece that includes pink, red, white, and black diamonds, edible treats, and traditional decorations. All of the precious stones are flawlessly cut and ethically sourced like the three-carat pink diamonds, and four-carat sapphires as well as jewels from luxury brands such as Bvlgari, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Chanel.
Inspired by peacocks and the art-deco era, the tree is also adorned with martini glasses, fragrance bottles, 3D printed chocolate peacocks, and feathers. Of course, there are classic ornaments like snowflakes, nutcrackers, fairies, and baubles. It’s just the baubles are made from diamond dust and 24-carat gold. The 24-carat gold emu egg set is the most valuable ornament as it's covered in red diamond dust, which is worth $11.7 million alone.
“We are delighted to unveil this year’s Christmas Tree with a glamorous twist,” Axel Bethke, Kempinski Hotel Bahia’s General Manager, said in a statement. “Debbie Wingham’s design is quite the showstopper in our hotel lobby, and we’re certain it will make guest’s time spent at the hotel during the festive season that bit more splendid.”
To the hotel’s knowledge, it is the most expensive Christmas tree. Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property, is the current Guinness World Record holder for the world’s most expensive Christmas tree with a value of about $11 million in 2010. The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is worth just $74,000, according to Forbes.
And though the tree is undoubtedly the holiday highlight for the hotel, they have a whole calendar of festivities to keep guests entertained. Their Diamond and Champagne evening on December 28, for example, is when guests have even the chance to take home their very own diamond worth over $2,000.
