When you think of an igloo, a vast snowy landscape typically comes to mind. Perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean? Not so much. But that’s precisely what Cliff House Maine is offering for the rest of the winter. The luxury hotel in Cape Neddick just revealed its new Cliffside Igloos, where visitors can dine atop Bald Head Cliff with unrivaled views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Located just outside of the property’s famous Nubb’s Lobster Shack, two igloos are available for guests and visitors to book– each comes equipped with choices of drinks and a sweet and savory fondue menu. You can order classic winter libations like hot chocolate and mulled cider as well as wine and Maine beer.
As far as the fondue goes, you’ll be treated to one made from local beer and New England aged cheddars. And for sweets, there’s a choice of dark chocolate and orange fondue or a Nutella S’mores fondue served with pretzels, marshmallow, fruit, pound cake, and biscotti.
“Cliff House is a place for celebrations for all ages and generations,” Cliff House’s General Manager, Nancy White, told Departures. “Winter is a magical time of year in coastal Maine whether you enjoy the luxury of relaxing in the outdoor hot tub, gathering by the roaring firepit, or now sharing stories with friends and family in the Igloos under the stars. Our new Igloos provide the perfect place to nestle up with a decadent homemade Valrhona Hot Cocoa or Hot Mulled Cider and reconnect with nature.”
One igloo will be for reservation by in-house guests, and the other for reservation by the public. It costs $250 for any sized group—two to six people—to rent, and they are open Thursday to Saturday during winter months. Guests and visitors may contact the Reservations Department at 877-407-2254 or Concierge at 207-361-6245 if interested.
