You want to sit next to Jennifer Fisher on a flight from JFK to LAX. “I’m on a plane a lot,” says the New York-based jewelry designer. Fisher, a Santa Barbara native whose fashion career started in television and film costuming in Los Angeles, returns to the west coast often. She says she “always has a sweet snack and a salty snack. But what I really pack a lot of is my beauty stuff. Put it this way, it’s a little OCD.” She laughs. “Okay…a lot OCD.”

Indeed, the designer known for her sculptural gold and brass cuffs and earrings (sold at Barneys New York) is so fanatical about her in-flight beauty regimen that her most important products get their own Louis Vuitton pouch, which sits in her new summer tote bag from Céline. “I am all about a great bag inside another bag inside another bag.”

Within this It-bag-Matryoshka-doll packing system is a series of highly organized Zip-Lock baggies—printed with Fisher's logo, naturally—each with a TSA-approved in-flight beauty solution.

“I have the usual stuff,” Fisher says—which for her means a Mason Pearson brush, aviator sunglasses, a spare pair of contact lenses, a silk eye mask from Silk "that I disco-ed up on my trip to India," two types of tweezers, and two concealers. “You have to,” she explains, "in case you get tan on your trip. And I am never without my Glossier Balm Dotcom, in coconut, which I use on my lips and hands and is amazing for cuticles.”

Her newest beauty discovery is Tatcha, a Japanese skin care line launched by a Bay Area Harvard grad. “Not only is their line amazing, but every product is available in travel size, which is hard to find. Even the really, really nice mask serums. If I take the red eye, I use one. It’s not a sheet mask. You see all these people on Instagram, on flights with those masks on their face. No.”

Fisher is as evangelical about beauty products as she is about her custom-made, 14-karat gold dog tags that launched her business in 2005. She’s also bullish on her new line of salts, blended with dill, cilantro, red chili pepper flakes, and lemon zest.

“Oh!” she says, remembering her most vital baggies. “All-natural sanitizing wipes,” for cleaning your hands or “something gross” off the arm of your seat or the tray. “And Glide dental floss picks. I’m a crazy flosser. People always ask me, ‘Do you have a toothpick?’ I’m like, ‘I do!’ I may give you one even if you don’t ask for it.”
