With air travel limited these days, people are looking for ways to explore while practicing safe social distancing. So, it’s no surprise that RV rental bookings skyrocketed ahead of the summer travel season. But what if you could bring your house on the road with you? That’s precisely what the Dutch company Haaks created with their mobile camper.
Called Opperland, the camper module comes attached to a Fiat Ducato fitting perfectly on its flatbed. This makes it easy to transport pretty much anywhere. Then, once you’ve found a spot to camp out, hydraulic legs lift the camper off the truck and get secured to the ground.
Inside there’s a kitchen complete with a sink, induction cooktop, mini-fridge/freezer, and a built-in bench for comfortable dining and lounging. The appliances are all powered by a big lithium-ion battery. There’s also a small bathroom with a toilet and shower, and the entire back opens to create the ultimate indoor-outdoor living.
But the coolest part of all is that it features a fold-out bedroom on top, creating a spacious two-story structure. A staircase next to the kitchen takes you upstairs to a loft that can fit a double mattress and features a skylight. So, you can lay in bed a gaze up at the stars at night.
“Whether you like to go into the mountains, look for the sea, discover hidden gems or prefer to taste culture in attractive towns; you are looking for freedom to go where you want,” reads the description on the website. “HAAKS campers offer you the freedom and flexibility for your adventures, with a new way of camping. A way of camping with luxury and comfort, but also more sustainable and with natural materials.”
The sustainable materials the company uses are all also durable enough to last years to come. For example, the sleek wood exterior was ethically sourced and treated to be rot-free for 25 years.
The Opperland starts at $107,500 and is customizable.
