As lockdown eases across Italy, luxury hotels from the Amalfi Coast to Lake Como have started reopening. Starting this week, Europeans have been able to enter Italy without needing a quarantine period after entry, making properties more excited than ever to welcome back travelers.

In fact, one of the county's most glamorous getaways, the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property has signaled its opening by debuting a unique way for guests to explore the surrounding lake and shores while socially distancing: a vintage Amphicar 770.

Guests can explore Lake Como by simply climbing aboard the rare 1960s car that can drive right into the water. Instead of turning the rear wheels, the powertrain drives a pair of propellers.

New to amphibious cars? No need to worry, an experienced instructor will teach guests how to navigate the car on water during the two-hour experience. Up to three guests (and the instructor) can motor up the lake to get a unique glimpse of Como landmarks like 18th-century Villa del Balbianello—a James Bond filming location which is only reached only by water—and Lake Como's only island, Isola Comacina. Interested guests can book the experience for $600 by heading over to the hotel’s website.

In addition to the hotel's new Amphicar tour, this season's opening will be more intimate than ever with only 30 rooms available out of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo's 90 rooms. This will allow lucky guests to safely distance while enjoying the palace and its spectacular facilities.

The hotel team says the property experience will remain unchanged, with its five restaurants and bars, three pools, and the T Spa open for business. They are also debuting a newly renovated and expanded T Beach, with real sand overlooking the spectacle that is Bellagio and the Grigne mountains. Sounds like la dolce vita to us.
