The Glacier Express—a route running between St Moritz and Zermatt in Switzerland—is on more bucket lists than you could even imagine for a reason. Take a look at a map and you’ll realize why: It leads you straight through some of the best scenery in the Alps.
From the beginning, you’re dropped right into a snowglobe fairytale as both the St Moritz and Zermatt train stations are incredibly scenic. Along the eight-hour journey, you’ll spot Matterhorn, Oberalp Pass, and the Landwasser Viaduct. While the views are beautiful from the existing second and first class seats, the operator is adding a whole new class for some added luxury: Excellence Class.
In the new ticket level, travelers will be treated to a seven-course meal served alongside champagne, panoramic views, concierge service, and personal tablet use. The Excellence seats are capped at 20 passengers per ride. Prices for a one-way ticket are currently just under $700. But weigh the benefits: a world-class dinner and drinks, unbeatable views, and personal space on an eight-hour journey via what’s technically considered public transportation? It might just be worth the cost.
For more information on the new Excellence seats, head to the Glacier Express website.
