Cabo San Lucas in Mexico has long been a hot spot for travelers of all kinds. Spring breakers love the booming nightlife while celebrities flock to the luxury beachfront resorts. With so much popularity, it’s hard to imagine there’s a spot along the coast that hasn’t been scooped up by a hotel or restaurant. But the Four Seasons found a hidden gem along the area’s East Cape called Costa Palmas and plans to open a property this fall.
Typically, when travelers land at the Los Cabos International Airport, they turn right to head to the popular tourist spots. Those staying at the Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas turn left, driving for about 45 minutes through a stunning desert landscape before reaching the hidden East Cape of the Baja Peninsula.
It's here, along the Sea of Cortez, where you'll find a UNESCO Marine Heritage site dubbed “the aquarium of the world” by the famous oceanographer Jacques Cousteau. It got this name thanks to the almost 900 species of fish and sea life that reside in the waters. This has also attracted chefs and sport fishermen to the exclusive area. And the warm waters are prime for diving, water sports, snorkeling, and swimming.
Incredibly, despite the majestic backdrop of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains and two miles of beautiful white sand beaches, the vast landscape of the East Cape has remained virtually untouched. “We are truly breaking new ground here, being part of this community that, while only 45-minutes from Los Cabos International Airport, presents an undiscovered paradise like no other on the Baja Peninsula,” said Vince Parrotta, Four Seasons President, Hotel Operations – Americas West in a statement.
Just offshore in the expansive deserts, there's plenty to keep busy too. The region offers ATV adventures, hiking, biking and horseback riding to exploring waterfalls and hot springs all within minutes of the resort. With freshwater coming off the mountains throughout the year, the East Cape also provides ideal conditions for organic farming.
Of course, the hotel itself will be spectacular. It’s the first marina-centric property in the brand’s portfolio, and the amenities are endless. There are five dining options, 18-acre organic farm, a spa, four pools, a sports complex, and a private marina. Plus, all 141 guest rooms, including 23 suites, all have views of the Sea of Cortez and private terraces.
While the Four Seasons is one of the first hotels to open on the hidden coastline, Amanvari at Costa Palmas (first Aman property in Mexico) will open next year.
“We are fully prepared that this part of Cabo is about to become the worst best-kept secret in the world,” said the Resort’s General Manager Borja Manchado in a statement. “Once our guests get a taste of the lifestyle here, I’m quite sure they will begin planning their next visit even before the first one is over.
