Between filming for her role as Marvel's Scarlet Witch (making a comeback in 2021 for Disney+'s WandaVision), to Facebook Watch's Sorry for Your Loss, which she not only stars in but also executive produces—it's safe to say Elizabeth Olsen is no stranger to traveling for work (it's part of the job), but the Avengers actor makes time to travel for pleasure too.
Olsen recently teamed up with American Express and Delta to celebrate the relaunch of the Delta SkyMiles American Express Card portfolio. With the relaunch, kicking off January 30, 2020, card members will be able to earn more miles on everyday purchases like double miles on restaurants worldwide and triple miles on hotels. They'll also be able to access more travel perks, like access to The American Express Centurion Lounges or a TSA Pre-Check Credit.
We chatted with the star ahead of the launch to discuss where she likes to spend her miles, what she's cooking for the holidays, her flying rituals and routines, and her favorite places back home in Los Angeles.
Departures: Where is your favorite place in the world to travel to?
"I recently went to the San Juan Islands near Seattle which was beautiful. My absolute favorite vacation is Italy, from Tuscany to the Amalfi Coast (my favorite hotel in the whole world is Le Sirenuse in Positano—an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property). I love Northern Italy, the people, the food, the service. I love, love, love all of the smells and all of the tastes. At Christmas, I usually make everyone pasta like Cacio e Pepe. It's a favorite Italian dish of mine that I usually have everywhere I go."
"I'm also hoping to live in London at some point. There’s nothing I love more than London. I love the energy in the city, the city is amazing in the sun there are always groups out on the streets by the pubs. I love how light it stays, and also how cold and wet it gets—and the English countryside!"
Do you have a routine when you fly? What can't you travel without?
"Oh absolutely! I just flew in last night on the Delta red-eye, and on the red-eyes especially, I always wipe down everything around me, I always have water, and I keep reapplying my moisturizer—I use Biologique Recherche Cream ($215; rescuespa.com)."
When you're back home in Los Angeles, where do you love to go?
"I love n/naka's chef tables and hiking Temescal Canyon"
Why did you decide to partner with American Express and Delta?
"For someone who travels all the time, I find my points really adding up and use them for friends and loved ones who come to visit."
