Even if travelers can't hop on planes right now for far-flung adventures, hotels around the world are getting creative with how to connect with people. And one of those properties happens to be a stunning castle in Ireland. Dromoland Castle, an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property, is now offering a Genealogy Package to help people trace their Irish roots before a visit (once restrictions are lifted).
How does it work? Well, after filling out an information form, guests get a 45-minute Zoom call with luxury hotel's in-house genealogist, Lorna Maloney. She will prepare the full results for the family after the initial form and a phone call. On the call, she will share an assessment, preliminary research, and any plans on the next steps on resources available for further information.
Then eventually, when the world opens up, you could visit Dromoland Castle, meet Lorna in person, and potentially visit towns, graveyards, castles, etc. where your family may have originated. She will also share this information over tea, coffee, and scones during your visit. You can also request to learn the info over the phone if preferred.
"We're thrilled to offer this chance for a one-on-one experience with Lorna, our resident genealogist right now," Mark Nolan, General Manager, told Departures. "Not only is it a fun way to mix up the family Zoom calls, but a great chance to learn more about one's roots. It also creates something for you to look forward to—a visit to our beautiful Castle, explore our 450-acre private countryside estate and the beautiful wild & dramatic landscape of Co. Clare where we are located."

This isn't the only hotel offering a virtual experience before an in-person one. Nayara Springs and Gardens just launched a one-on-one zoom session with their on-site coffee expert as part of a package that includes a stay at a later date.
The cost for Genealogy Package is €220 ($240).
