Music fans have the chance to own some iconic rock n’ roll history while also helping in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. How? British-Jamaican label, Island Records, announced the One Love Covid-19 Relief Auction that will place one-of-a-kind items up for bid.
So, what can you expect to find listed? For starters, there will be lots of handwritten lyrics from musicians like Bono, Annie Lennox, and Jon Bon Jovi. Mumford & Sons will provide a lucky winner with a banjo lesson and signed banjo while other artists like Shawn Mendes, Ben Howard, and OneRepublic will offer up instruments as well. And there’s even a pair of Amy Winehouse’s stilettos up for grabs.
But it’s the music-themed experiences that might be the most eye-catching. Abbey Road Studios (where the Beatles recorded) is offering a private tour, and Jamie Cullum will perform a private streamed concert. And since the auction got its name from a song by one of the label’s most famous artists, Bob Marley, it’s only fitting that there would be Marley-themed items up for auction.
Artist Mr. Brainwash is donating a print of Bob Marley, iconic photography by Adrian Boot in 1979 of Marley, and Strawberry Hill Hotel in Jamaica is offering a three-night stay for two guests. Owned by Island Records co-founder Chris Blackwell, the five-star hotel is the spot where Marley recuperated after his 1976 shooting. Bonus: it is the sister luxury property to Golden Eye where Ian Fleming penned all 14 James Bond books.
The auction, which will be hosted live by Billy Porter on May 21 at 1 p.m. EST, was created to raise money for NHS Charities Together in the United Kingdom and Feeding America in the United States. It will be available via Omega Auctions and Island YouTube Channel.
