Aspen is one of the most iconic ski destinations in the world. People from all over flock to the upscale town for top-notch skiing, fine dining, and world class outdoor entertainment. One such hot spot for several decades was the Aspen Club. Dating back to 1976, the fitness and tennis facility was frequented by locals, celebrities, and sports stars. And now, it’s getting a total luxe makeover.

After sitting vacant for three years, Meriwether Companies, a private real estate investment and development firm decided to snatch up the five-acre mixed-use development site and turn it into a high-end social hot spot. The space will include a resort and fitness club that will offer a variety of wellness programming, culinary options, and hospitality hubs. Think of the 20 three- and four-bedroom residences as well as cutting-edge sports training for fitness buffs situated on a prime location along the Roaring Fork River. Plus, it will be just a short walk from downtown Aspen making it easily accessible for locals and visitors.
“We’re looking forward to curating an entirely new resort and club concept centered around health and wellness for the sophisticated Aspen clientele,” Meriwether partner Garrett Simon told Departures. “Along with these underlying themes, we will also have new luxury room products to accommodate a variety of travelers, from couples traveling alone to large groups and families seeking more space and amenities than traditional hotel rooms offer. Aspen is a special destination with a vibrant community, and we’re excited about the opportunity to bring together the locals, travelers, and vacation-home owners. Exclusivity can be lonely.”

This is not the only mountain club Meriwether Companies has in the works. The company is also planning Coral Mountain in La Quinta, California, and recently wrapped up Transfer Telluride in Telluride, Colorado, among others. Construction on the Aspen Club is expected to begin in early summer 2021.
