The kitchen essentials you couldn’t get enough of in 2023.

This November 30 and December 1 (the same weekend as this year's Small Business Saturday), American Express Platinum Card and Centurion Members are invited to the first-ever Platinum House experience in New York City.

A hop away from Manhattan's buzzing Union Square, Platinum House New York is going to be the hidden respite from shopping the city's best mom-and-pop and local stores. The two-day pop up offers Card Members (and three of their guests) complimentary cocktails and small plates from three of New York's most sought-after Global Dining Collection restaurants; Simon Kim's Michelin-starred Korean barbecue Cote, Charlie Bird's Legacy Records, and Wayan from Cédric and Ochi Vongerichten.

Two words: come hungry. Foodies are going to be very happy with the signature dishes on the weekend's menu. Wayan's fan-favorites, Clams Jimbaran, Gado Gado, and Pandan Custard, are on the card. Also notable is Cote's Galbi Steak Sandwich and Steak & Egg, as well as Legacy Records' Tuna Toro and Black Truffle Hot Dog.

In addition to small bites, Members will be treated to specialty cocktails created by Undercote (Cote's dreamy basement bar), select wines curated by Parcelle, and coffee. Exclusive offerings will be curated by Platinum Collective Members, an advisory board made up of tastemakers and entrepreneurs, including:

  • Made Of protein beverages by Kirsty Godso
  • Specialty cocktail using Gotham Greens by Viraj Puri
  • Custom gift wrapping curated by Colette's Sarah Andelman (up to two gifts per person)
  • Signed copies of More Than Enough and Meet & Greet with Elaine Welteroth
  • A local NYC shopping guide curated by Elaine Welteroth, Kirsty Godso, and Zanna Roberts Rassi.

And in the spirit of shopping small, we asked the featured chefs and restaurateurs what's on their holiday gift list for home cooks and food-and-wine enthusiasts this year.

Ryan Hardy, Legacy Records

"I think a great bottle of olive oil is a terrific gift to bring if you're going to somebody's house for dinner," advises Chef Hardy. "Particularly if that person loves wine and you're feeling fearful about giving them a bottle that couldn't compete with their own taste. I'm fortunate that we work with terrific olive oil manufacturers in Italy like DeCarlo. They're family run since 1600 in Apulia and the oil is phenomenal."

Simon Kim and David Shim, Cote

"I can't live without my knives in the kitchen. I have a special connection with my tools and my knife is an extension of my arm," admits Chef Shim. "In Asia we have a saying that 'swords and knives have a soul of their own,' you pick it up and it feels right in your hand. Like Excalibur."

Ochi and Cedric Vongerichten, Wayan

"For me, personally, a good bottle of wine is always welcome. I am also eyeing up a new set of Japanese knives," says Chef Vongerichten. For Ochi, it's Indonesian chilli condiments to spice up everyday cooking.

The Platinum House will be open from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1. Located on 5 East 17th Street, New York City, the Platinum House will be open exclusively for Platinum Card and Centurion Members and up to three guests each.
