Sometimes fashion adopts styles that are anything but easy to wear (we’re looking at you body-con dresses and sky-high stilettos). Other times it redeems itself and embraces pieces that make us look forward to waking up in the morning and getting dressed. An excellent example of the latter is wide-legged pants and culottes, aka gaucho pants, a style that has been a fixture on runways for a few seasons now.

Roomy silhouettes are actually nothing new, but the kind we see everywhere now––sporting high waist and a wide flowing leg––were especially trendy in the 30s, often featuring oversized front buttons and a wide cuffed hem.

We could think of a few good reasons for this comeback: an omnipresent penchant for comfortable clothing––especially athleisure––being one. But wide-legged pants are also incredibly stylish and versatile. They could lean formal when paired with high heels and a silk top, or they could give off a relaxed vibe when worn with flats and a t-shirt. The possibilities are endless.

Here, we rounded up the best short and long wide-legged pants to wear this spring season.
