A dip into the world of luxurious fountain pens.

Summer is the season of fun and relaxation, fun really being the keyword here, so keep that in mind when you go furnishing shopping, suggests Nicole Andrew, style editor at luxury online furnishing retailer Perigold. “Let it be an extension of your indoor space. There’s no need to sacrifice style just because you want it to be functional,” she adds. But what does that mean in practical terms?

“Think about the size of your space, how much sun and shade it gets, and whether children and/or pets will be spending time there. If so, and you’re going with upholstered cushions and furniture, you may want to consider a slightly darker fabric, but one that won’t retain heat if the area gets direct sun,” Andrew explains.

Outdoor spaces often feature large concrete areas, which don’t necessarily bring up an image of coziness. To make them more homey-looking start off by adding a couple of rugs and pillows.

“A throw, or a basket of them, will ensure you and any guests will be cozy no matter the time of day. No need to be shy about plant life, either —potted flowers or greenery add an extra touch of life,” says Andrew.

Amber Uhl, an interior designer at Havenly, also says that pillows, for example, are a great way to add texture and color. Another way to make your garden cozier is through lighting.

“Opt in for uplighting along your fence line and house, bistro lights with Edison bulbs for under overhangs, and lanterns with solar operated lights inside around the furniture areas,” she suggests.

Here we rounded up the chicest pieces of outdoor furniture and décor pieces that will instantly upgrade your garden or patio.
