Back in January, during the luxury exhibition, Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva, Roger Dubuis announced he was dedicating 2016 as the “Year of the Woman.” In step with his decree, the brand created an elaborate exhibition space devoted to women and showed only ladies’ timepieces, including one from a collection dubbed Velvet Ribbon. Now, just in time for the holidays and before the year’s end, the Maison adds several new models to its Velvet Ribbon collection, including this stunning necklace that represents the ultimate blend of high horology and high jewelry.
The limited-edition Velvet Ribbon necklace is a study in dramatic black and white glamour. Hanging from a strand of Akoya pearls and onyx beads sits a 18-karat white gold pendant watch with a 36mm case paved in baguette-cut diamonds, a diamond-set dial, and a beautiful 18-karat white gold ribbon, tied in a bow, meticulously set with brilliant cut diamonds. (The watch dial is set in an upside-down mode so that the wearer can lift the pendant to see the time.) Opposite the stunning ribbon is a gleaming tassel with 19 strands of onyx beads, each finished with a single Akoya pearl. In total the design is features 918 diamonds, 290 onyx beads, and 92 Akoya pearls and has a total weight of just (nearly) 21 carats.
The watch is powered by the in-house-made RD801 mechanical hand-wound movement. Like all Roger Dubuis timepieces, this stunning design carries the Poincon de Geneve (Hallmark of Geneva) seal attesting to its high-standards of craftsmanship. Just eight pieces will be made, sold exclusively at Roger Dubuis boutiques worldwide. Price: $443,500; 212-651-3773.
