How to Make a Timepiece Timeless
Experts reveal the secrets to selecting a wristwatch with heirloom potential.
Meghan Markle’s beloved shoe brand is making headlines again. Just a couple of months after re-releasing a sold-out pair of the Duchess’ favorite flats, Sarah Flint is launching some very special footwear. In celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Natalie Flat, the famous shoe designer created a made-to-order version of the style inspired by Vermeer’s iconic painting, Girl with a Pearl Earring.
“Art has always been a source of inspiration to me,” Flint told Departures. “This past spring, I designed a limited-edition ‘Still Life’ collection inspired by the Dutch masters—specifically Johannes Vermeer’s still life paintings. Vermeer’s Girl With a Pearl Earring is also one of my favorite paintings, so while it didn’t fit into the ‘Still Life’ collection, I knew I wanted to create something special around it.”
Called The Girl With the Pearl Natalie, this luxe version of the brand’s famous flat is made of hand-pleated satin and features an 18-karat gold bow, hand-pleated blue satin, 49 genuine inset pearls, and gold leather outsole and lining. “I wanted the Girl With a Pearl Natalie to incorporate all of my favorite elements of the painting,” added Flint. “The beautiful blue and gold, and of course the pearl.”
This fall marks the fifth anniversary of the launch of the Natalie Flat, one of the designer’s best-selling styles. But she certainly has many other popular pairs. Markle loves The Lily flat, caused the Perfect Pump to sell out after wearing them to her first official outing with Prince Harry, and wore the Marina Boot during an official royal engagement. Plus, Lady Gaga, Karlie Kloss, Jane Fonda, Amal Clooney, and Blake Lively are all fans of the direct-to-consumer shoe brand.
The price of The Girl With the Pearl Natalie is upon request and will be available to order on SarahFlint.com starting September 17. Better yet, all proceeds will go to the Lower Eastside Girls Club, a state-of-the-art community center that offers a haven with no-cost programs in the arts, sciences, leadership, entrepreneurship, and wellness for girls in middle and high school.
