The year 1957 was an auspicious one: Elvis topped music charts, the Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik 2, Wham-O released the Frisbee, and Omega debuted a troika of iconic watches, the Omega Seamaster 300, the Railmaster, and the Speedmaster. Now, Omega honors the 60th anniversary of these three high-precision, professionally geared timepieces with a limited-edition set that resurfaces the original designs.
The Making of the Watches in the Trilogy Set
To create authentic re-issues of each watch, Omega used tomography to take more than 3,000 images of the inaugural timepieces, which were then combined to create 3-D models. While few changes were made to the design of the pieces, each re-issue was given a contemporary Omega movement.
Details of the Omega 1957 Trilogy Limited Editions
Like the originals, each re-issue watch has a stainless steel case and a black dial with white markers and vintage indexes. (The 2017 remakes use Super-LumiNova, rather than the original Tritium for easy reading in the dark.) Every dial also features its limited-edition number and an exact replica of the watch model’s original 1957 Omega logo.
The 1957 Trilogy Seamaster 300 C0-Axial Chronometer is a 39mm watch with a black aluminium bezel. It features the original “Naiad” sign on the crown, noting the watch’s exceptional water resistance of 300 meters. The timepiece is powered by the caliber 8806 movement. The 1957 Trilogy Railmaster Master Co-Axial Chronometer 38mm is powered by the Master Chronometer 8806, which resists magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss. The 1957 Trilogy Speedmaster 38.6mm is fitted with the Omega 1861 caliber, used in the brand’s famous “Moon watch,” and features its tachymeter scale on the bezel, instead of on the dial, just like its predecessor (the original was the first watch to do this).
The Omega 1957 Trilogy Set is sold in an oak presentation box which houses a leather role with three spare leather straps and three NATO straps in neutral hues, as well as a tool to change them.
Price and Availability
The Omega 1957 Trilogy Set is limited to an edition of just 557 boxes. The set retails for $21,600, and will be in authorized Omega retailers beginning in June. Only want one? Omega is also producing a limited run of 3,557 pieces of each of these watches to be sold individually, with the 1957 Seamaster 300 at $7,000, the 1957 Railmaster at $6,800, and the 1957 Speedmaster at $7,250.
