First-time Oscar contender Naomie Harris had a major moment on the red carpet at the 2017 Academy Awards. The 40-year-old Best Supporting Actress nominee (for her role in the drama Moonlight) selected a Calvin Klein By Appointment look, from Raf Simons’ inaugural collection for the brand.
The matte-sequin cutout cocktail dress, with almost a super hero cape, paired with mismatched, yellow heels, may appear an unconventional choice for the occasion. (Look at all the conventional prom-like dresses.) But it was no mistake. Unlike a certain mishap at the ceremony, Harris pulled off the ensemble with aplomb, balancing the inconsistencies of the formfitting, sequined number and vibrant, jewel-encrusted sandals with 18-karat white-gold-and-diamond jewelry from Bulgari. Next year, we hope to see the British actress accessorize with a little more gold: perhaps with an 8 ½-pound little man.
