The Macallan whisky has had a stellar year. They've opened a brand-new strikingly modern distillery this summer, fetched nearly $1.2million at Sotheby's for a rare 60-year-old bottle in Hong Kong, and have been releasing whiskeys that have been aged for upwards of four decades in the distillery’s signature sherry oak wood sourced from Spain. The latest is a $35,000, 50-year-old, of which only 35 bottles were made available in the U.S.
For their next trick, they've paired with luxury performance shoe retailer, Rob McAllan to create 100 pairs of "The King of Speyside" loafers.
The luxurious velvet shoes are described on the site as "an evolution of the iconic loafer, inspired by "The Macallan Rare Cask"—a release made up from 50 casks, hand-picked from the most unique and rarest casks in the warehouse that can never be re-created.
Designed in New York and handcrafted in Italy, the loafers feature rich handpicked velvet with gold stitching of the Macallan "Spiritual Home" and a regal metal lion accent on the heels. Though they look like dress shoes, they feel less like a dress shoe and more like a custom athletic sneaker.
Raquel Raies, The Macallan National Brand Ambassador said, “the Macallan is dedicated to supporting young entrepreneurs, so a collaboration with Rob McAllan was the perfect fit to create something unique, special, and available in limited quantities, just like each batch of The Macallan Rare Cask.”
Limited to 100 pairs of shoes, the coveted loafer will be available for purchase from December 14th at www.robmcallan.com. The loafers retail for $500 a pair and 100% of the purchase price being donated to The Folded Flag Foundation, an organization that provides educational scholarships and support to families of fallen soldiers.
