In the hills of Los Angeles, two designers inhabit a modern bohemia.

If you’ve ever wanted to star in your own film, or even work as an extra, French brand Hermès is giving you the chance to take center stage with its immersive exhibition at the National Art Center in Tokyo. Conceptualized by the artistic director of women’s universe, Bali Barret, and designed by French filmmaker and curator, Laure Flammarion, the exhibition replicates a bustling movie set—full with a backstage vanity for hair and makeup, cameras, and lighting.

The plot focuses on the pursuit of “her,” a nod to the archetypal Hermès woman, who acts as the mysterious, sensual, and alluring counterpart. Each themed set centers on the brand’s fall 2018 women’s collection as informed by the women’s ready-to-wear artistic director, Nadège Vanhée-Cybulski.

The exhibition also pays homage to some of the house’s most iconic pieces—like Birkin and Kelly bags, silk scarves, and fragrances—which are scattered throughout as props and parts of costumes.

“Avec Elle” will continue through the end of the month at the National Art Center in the heart of the city’s capital. 7 Chome-22-2 Roppongi, Minato.
