Iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has passed away at the age of 85 in Paris. His death comes after a short battle with pancreatic cancer, according to multiple news outlets.
Forward-thinking with unyielding genious, Lagerfeld has left a multitude of unmistakable marks on the fashion industry over the course of his 70-year tenure.
Widely known as a man who refused to look behind him, his work mirrors his eye for progression. Lagerfeld has moved more fashion houses in the way of of-the-moment design than nearly any other creative director, making him one of the most acclaimed designers of his time. From his roots as a junior assistant at the house of Balmain to his designs for Chloe and Fendi, Lagerfeld's artistry and ingenuity has, at one time or another, made its mark on nearly every luxury fashion house that prevails today.
Most notably is his impressive tenure as the creative director of Chanel. Having spent over three decades at the iconic fashion house, Lagerfeld brought new life to the storied label. His absence will not only be felt in the coming fashion weeks but in the industry for years to come.
Designers and celebrities he's dressed or worked with over the years have taken to social media to express their condolences.
