Cartier’s iconic Santos de Cartier wristwatch is back. Designed in 1904 by Louis Cartier and Alberto Santos Dumont and memorialized in 1987’s Wall Street by Michael Douglas’ Gordon Gekko is launching today on Mr. Porter. The 2018 version, first revealed in January at the SIHH watch fair in Geneva, is being labeled a “reinterpretation” and is offered in pink gold, yellow gold, and stainless steel variations. (Mr. Porter is exclusively offering medium-large stainless versions, that come with black leather straps.) Prices range from $6,250 for the 35.6 millimeter stainless steel with removable leather strap to $37,000 for a 39.8 millimeter rose gold version.
For watch collectors always on the prowl for new sources, watch this space. Mr. Porter is making a big play in the fine watch world—with the new addition of Cartier, the online retailer now carries 16 brands. For Cartier collectors, it’s worth noting another men’s launch will be happening later this year.
