When it comes to multitalented performers, it’s fair to say that Billy Porter is in a league of his own. The proof? Porter has already won an Emmy, Grammy, and Academy Award for his work and is only a Tony award away from achieving an EGOT status—something only about 20 performers have ever accomplished.
And when it comes to his style, Porter is a true trailblazer, too. His red carpet looks (and that includes his jewelry) are always the stuff of fashion dreams. Who can forget his most recent sparkly Grammy Awards jumpsuit and especially the lampshade hat that he accessorized it with? Simply iconic.
Naturally, Porter wasn’t going to disappoint us at tonight’s Oscars ceremony. He was one of the first celebrities to arrive at Dolby Theater and he looked absolutely stunning. Porter stepped out in a Giles Deacon Couture number, dubbed the Cupola gown, that comprised of a sleeveless mock-neck bustier top that was crafted from real 24-karat gold feathers.
Fashion expert and E! host Zanna Roberts Rassi also revealed that the skirt for the look was created after his stylist, Sam Ratelle, went on a tour of Kensington Palace last year. He was so impressed by it that he spoke to Giles Deacon about it and the duo decided to use the Palace’s Cupola room as inspiration for the skirt.
His shoes are also a work of art, for which is responsible Sandra Choi, the head designer of Jimmy Choo. She created a pair of towering lace-up platform heels made from gold metallic etched leather. He topped it all off with Swarovski jewelry.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again—nobody does a red carpet like Billy Porter does and tonight he is dressed just like the icon that he is.
