How the Gucci Loafer Became a Modern Icon

As its 70 years of illustrious history prove, the style makes a lasting impression.

Purple may be the color of nobility in the West, but in India it represents reincarnation and evolution. Fitting, then, that it’s the color of a new collaboration between Amanda Ross, the New York–based stylist (and former DEPARTURES fashion director) and Sanjay Kasliwal of Jaipur’s famed Gem Palace. “I wanted something bold but wearable,” Ross says of the ten-piece collection of amethyst jewelry. “The stones are tough; you can knock them around. Seed pearls add some femininity.” Highlights include a cabochon-studded gold cuff and a woven-gold Moghul-motif lariat for modern-day maharanis.
