The annual (and much anticipated) December art fair extravaganza that takes over Miami and Miami Beach each year is back, and with it, of course, are its hundreds of events and parties.
The actual Art Basel fair—located at the Miami Beach Convention Center—opens to the public on Dec. 7, as does Design Miami/, its sister entity that focuses on product and furniture design. (It’s just a short walk away, so you can do both within the same timeframe.) Be sure to check out other fairs, too, like NADA, which also opens its doors on the 7th, as well as Scope, which opens a bit earlier, on Dec. 5.
By night, much of Art Basel Miami Beach’s programming revolves around soirees that range from luxe fashion parties (stroll through the revamped Design District in Miami city; it’s super chic, and has everything from Christian Dior to Christian Louboutin) to celebrity-studded concerts. The neighborhood of Wynwood is featuring new art installations at its famed Wynwood Walls, which is an outdoor complex that generally features excellent graffiti and murals. If you can snag an invite, there’s a kickoff party for it on Dec. 5, which will feature a performance by Jermaine Dupri. However, if you can’t make that, Wynwood in general is worth exploring—the enclave has been significantly developed over the past few years and offers no shortage of restaurants, galleries and shops.
Back on the beach, the buzz is just as booming. On Dec. 7, Perrier-Jouët is hosting a special performance by Elle Goulding at the modernist parking garage designed by Herzog & De Meuron, located at 1111 Lincoln Road. The Faena will see the opening of the much-talked about Museum of Ice Cream on Dec. 8. And, of course, there’s the Platinum House at the fantastic Miami Beach EDITION hotel, which starts on Dec. 8, too. This seaside pop-up—which is available to American Express Platinum and Centurion card members, plus three guests per card holder—will host morning fitness classes curated by Well + Good; beauty appointments by MILK Makeup, Ouai and Paintbox; custom product by Knowlita; an installation by the artist Es Devlin called Room 2022 (this part is open to the public), and much more. Plus, if you’re looking to just kick back and relax for a minute over a glass of wine, it’s a perfect pit stop. Happy Basel-ing!
