Eschewing the faux-château look, these five wine producers opt for high design.
Château Cheval Blanc, Bordeaux, France
Designed by French architect Christian de Portzamparc, the new extension on the 181-year-old winery is a work of art: a smooth sculpture rising from the earth like concrete sails. The building evokes the movement of a pendulum, playing with geometry and light throughout the day. Its free-flowing space opens directly onto the vineyards. cheval-blanc.com.
