More than a dozen top-notch hotel bars to linger in—before, after, and while the sun sets.

Mama Shelter Rooftop, Los Angeles
The bar perched atop the year-old Thierry Gaugain–designed Mama Shelter hotel in Hollywood, the French chain’s first property outside Europe, is nothing if not merriment incarnate. Furniture comes in every color of an eight-set crayon box, mixed-and-matched in fun, carefree combinations. Add in the shareable, mostly Mediterranean menu, cocktails named after classic movies, and views of the city’s enormous sprawl (and famed Hollywood sign), and you have one dynamic way to spend an evening. (On Sundays do one better and show up at 4 p.m. for a pre–happy hour yoga class.) 6500 Selma Ave.; 323-785-6666; mamashelter.com. —Nikkitha Bakshani
