Markham Roberts has been called “a master of timeless American style.” After training with Mark Hampton for six years, Markham opened his eponymous firm in 1997 and has worked on residential projects across the country and abroad. Currents projects include houses in London, New York City, the Hudson Valley, Nantucket, Florida, Nashville, Montana, Los Angeles and the Puget Sound. His first book, Markham Roberts Decorating: The Way I See It (The Vendome Press, 2014) is now in its second printing.
Approach to Residential Design
Known for his ability to work in any design vernacular, Markham brings a modern approach to classic design, infusing interiors with an exceptionally personable and knowledgeable touch. With his refined eye and natural understanding of how a house should function, Markham creates rooms that are comfortable, beautiful and perfectly suited to his clients.
It is important to Markham that his projects do not look alike. With a keen ability to assess and interpret what each client needs and wants, he creates rooms that are timeless and not defined by signature gimmicks or design trends. Inventively combining color, patterns, fabrics, textures, furniture and art, his interiors have been described as “the very definition of chic.”
“I take inspiration from anything and everything in the world around me, from something as obvious as a museum or a house I admire, to the more specific, like the colors of a particular painting or patterns in nature," explains Markham. "That said, I always start first with the client in mind, and look at each job individually.”
