Mamma Agata Cooking School on the Amalfi Coast
OF 10

Mamma Agata, Amalfi Coast, Italy

Fred Astaire once enjoyed “Mamma Agata’s” spaghetti, and Humphrey Bogart loved her famous lemon cake (he used to call her “Baby Agata,” since she was only 13 at the time). Over the decades, this famed old-school chef on the Amalfi Coast has also cooked for the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Jacqueline Onassis; more recently, she published an award-winning cookbook and provided the setting for the semifinal of MasterChef UK. Today, Mamma runs this cooking school with her daughter Chiara and son-in-law, sommelier Gennaro. Most of the dishes cooked in the day-long classes utilize the fruits, vegetables, olive oil and livestock grown on the property.  The other benefits include soaking up the Hollywood wattage and strolling through the lemon trees and acres of gardens. Classes start at $255 in April and $320 from May through October; Piazza S. Cosma, 9 - 84010 Ravello (Salerno); 39-089/857-845; mammaagata.com.
