In the Red

After nearly 80 years at 691 Fifth Avenue, the time had come for Elizabeth Arden’s Red Door flagship to get its own makeover. The new look of the first floor balances the modern (chrome-and-glass displays) and the classic (a midcentury chandelier) in a space dominated by a curving lacquer wall. The iconic red door itself is now bigger, and the 1,000-square-foot shop, which reopened in March, will showcase not only new products but also special collaboration projects, such as a shopping-bag design contest done by graduate students at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology.
