A Proper Shirt Indeed

Charles Tyrwhitt shirtmakers

Blimey! Another British shirtmaker is bringing Jermyn Street threads to New York streets. In the tradition of Pink and Turnbull & Asser, Charles Tyrwhitt—pronounced "Tirit"—opened on Madison Avenue in November. True believers (Bill Clinton among them) find the shirts sportier than Pink's and more affordable than T&A's. "Blokes in America are after some color," says Justin Metcalf, president of the Tyrwhitt U.S. branch, "and I think we're rather groovy." Men's and women's shirts, $80-$110. At 377 Madison Avenue; 212-286-8988; www.tyrwhitt.com.
