World's Most Scenic Walks
Bald Rock Trail, Camden Hills State Park, Camden, Maine
Maine native Edna St. Vincent Millay was so moved by the convergence of mountains and sea at this state preserve that the landscape inspired her famous poem “Renascence”—which launched her career when it was published 1912. The half-mile Bald Rock Trail is the park’s easiest and shortest but affords the most spectacular views of Camden Harbor and Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park; follow it down to the harbor to watch the windjammers and schooners pull into the harbor every evening. A sunrise breakfast of lobster Benedict and wild blueberry scones from the Camden Harbour Inn is not to be missed. Two-night hiking packages, from $382; camdenharbourinn.com.
