In Sanskrit, “amanpuri” means “place of peace,” and it’s easy to see why: At Amanpuri’s 3,700-square-foot hilltop gym, floor-to-ceiling windows provide wide views of the Andaman Sea, and the wood-and-green interiors reference the lush tropical vegetation surrounding the Phuket resort, which is nestled within a coconut plantation on the island’s western shore. Guests can stretch their legs on elliptical trainers, rowing machines and treadmills outfitted with satellite TVs (though we think the distant mountains of Phuket may be an even better distraction), or join a group Pilates class, taking advantage of the studio’s Pilates Reformer machines. The resort’s spa offers guided yoga sessions at daybreak and six light-filled pavilions, each with a private steam room and a large outdoor sala for meditation.
