Big Sur resident Caroline Brandes has spent the past several years refurbishing and custom-fitting two vintage trailers on her 8.5-acre property: a 1974 Avian 28-footer and a 1965 Airstream 22-footer. Both are now furnished with retro-chic baths and kitchenettes, snug sleeping cabins and Bose sound systems; parked in private spots overlooking forest and distant sea, each has patio furniture and a fire pit for relaxing alfresco.
