1929 Cord L-29 Hayes Coupe
Of the 92 classic cars that changed hands at the Amelia Island auction, the 1929 Cord L-29 Hayes Coupe fetched the top price of $2.42 million. While the Cord name fell victim to the Great Depression, this car made its mark in automotive history, being the first American car with front-wheel drive and four hydraulic brakes. This particular car was designed by Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky and built by Hayes Motor Body Works specifically for international auto-show competitions.
