Azzedine Alaïa
Many years ago the designer Azzedine Alaïa bought an old department store warehouse in the Marais. The four-building complex, which takes up an entire block, is fantastic and very theatrical. In it, Alaïa has created his own world, the opposite of a banal commercial space. His boutique is here, as is his workshop, an exhibition area and even a kitchen. He loves to cook, and if he likes you, he will invite you to dinner. You might sit next to a seamstress on one side and the Princess of Qatar on the other. He designed the boutique with Julian Schnabel, whose canvases hang on the walls and beautifully complement Alaïa’s very feminine and sculptural dresses (from $2,2030). 7 Rue de Moussy; 31-1/42-72-30-69.
