Home-Bar Basic: A muddler. It’s essential to make cobblers requiring fresh muddled fruit and to press the aromatic oils out of fresh herbs such as mint.
His Summer Cocktail: This is a recipe I developed to complement a rum called Banks 5-Island, which I helped create. Summer cocktails should be hydrating, and nothing beats zesty Caribbean grapefruit soda spiked with citrus and your favorite rum.
The Flamingo
2 ounces Banks 5-Island Rum
3/4 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice
3 ounces pink grapefruit soda (preferably Ting from Jamaica)
Lime wheel for garnish
Add the rum and lime juice to a mixing glass. Add ice. Shake and strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Top with grapefruit soda and garnish with a lime wheel.
