In the last year, TriBeCa has ushered in a new era of sophisticated maturity even as the neighborhood maintains its edge and creative cachet.

Named for the triangle of streets below Canal that forms its borders, TriBeCa evolved from a manufacturing zone into an artists’ enclave more than two decades ago. But unlike SoHo, it has, thankfully, avoided a fate as a midlevel urban mall. The last year in particular has seen the arrival of stylish hotels, restaurants, and stores here, ushering in a new era of sophisticated maturity even as the neighborhood maintains its edge and creative cachet.
